Worth the Wait

Disclaimer: I’m not writing this blog for people to feel sorry for me.   However, I trained over a year for a goal and didn’t achieve it.  A year ago today was bitter sweet. Bitter because I had a serious knee surgery, sweet because I was drafted into the WNBA. I knew going into it that it would be a long road to recovery but I was ready and willing if that's what I needed to do to reach my lifelong dream of playing in the WNBA. I’ve come back strong from two ACL injuries, the meniscus wasn’t too bad, the scope was nothing, one more can’t be that hard right?  A 9-12 month recovery? Easy!   Bet I can probably speed that up a couple months, maybe catch a short overseas season before heading to the WNBA.  I thought I had the blueprint for success .  Months one-four: Internship. Do early stages of rehab in Chicago and get some work experience while I’m at it. Check! Months five-twelve: Move to Durham and hit it hard in rehab. Continue physical thera

Behind the Scenes at College GameDay

I know I’ve been slacking with writing blogs lately, but after last weekend I have no other choice, this story must be shared. For those who don’t know I’ve been back at Duke since September rehabbing hard trying to get ready for this upcoming WNBA season. In the meantime, I’ve been doing a variety of things off the court, one including being a color analyst for Duke Sports Radio covering the Duke Women’s team. I can write a whole other blog on the experiences that have gone along with that, both hilarious and embarrassing, but for now I’m going to write about my experience at College GameDay last weekend shadowing Jay Williams.  Being at Duke for what seems like a century now, I’ve seen Jay around from time to time. He covered my McDonalds All American game in High School, the College 3pt Shootout I participated in at the Men’s Final 4 last spring, then, of course, I see his jersey hanging in the rafters every time I walk in Cameron. The guy is one of the best Duke players of al

Well, the people have spoken. Another blog has been requested. I haven’t written one since my time has sadly come to an end in Chicago and there are many entertaining updates that must be shared. I finished my internship a few weeks and ago and since then spent some much needed time back home with family and am now settled back in Durham where I plan to stay until I get fully healthy and back to playing!  Reflecting back on my time in Chicago I’ve realized I truly came a long way. Looking back to day 1 getting heckled by a homeless man, I never would have thought I’d come as far as I did. I came to Chicago with a few goals: 1. Make the most of my internship 2. Explore as much as possible 3. Find a friend with a boat  And I’m happy to say I accomplished all of them.  My internship was definitely made the most of. I helped contribute with Walk On! America, a cross-country non-profit bike trek initiative that raised over $400,000 for the Intellectual and Developmental D

Hi peeps,  First off I apologize for my delayed Blog. I'm starting to realize lately I’ve been busier than I was in college...and I didn’t think that was possible. Turns out a 9-5 job, physical therapy, working out, travel, family, friends, fun, and sleep is a lot to balance. Time management and prioritizing are definitely just as important in post-grad life as they were in college. As much as I try to convince myself I can, I’m starting to realize I can’t do it all. Sacrifices are necessary, so for now, I’ve made one... sleep. I can sleep when I'm dead.  I’m wired to go go go, and for me, that means trying to cram in as much in one day as I can. My mother thinks I’m crazy, but I can’t help it! I like to have fun, explore, try new things, and make the most of every opportunity. Life really is an adventure and I’m just trying to #liveitup. I’m telling myself I’m going to rest once my internship is finished (we’ll see if that happens), but for now I’m a woman on the mo
